Alessi Holsters
Alessi holsters was started by master holster maker Louis Alessi (Lou to his friends) in 1974
and is based in update NY. Like many holster makers, Alessi started making holsters for friends and it eventually
turned from a hobby into a successful business.
Alessi's designs were very popular with law enforcement and the military so, as a one man shop,
he was swamped with orders. As the business matured, Lou started bringing in employees for help.
Alessi is credited with some holster designs that have become a fundamental basis for future
holster makers. He was the first maker to design a "pull thru" snap, where the weapon was drawn through the thumb
break to the ready position. All of Lou's designed were real world tested by law enforcement and military in
actual situations. Any design that didn't perform well was either tweaked or discarded.

Alessi was a stickler about quality and fit. Each holster was hand cut and handcrafted one at a
time, using the best materials available. Throughout his career, Lou did joint ventures with other makers like
Milt Sparks on projects like the Watch 6 and patented the Talon clips.
Alessi was old school and, up until just recently, didn't have a web site. All orders were
either called or e-mailed in. Lou did return calls when he could, but the sheer workload made that very difficult.
The demand for his holsters kept him working 6 days a week and created a delivery time of anywhere from 12 to 24
months. Alessi did bring on a few dealers, but they were unable to keep stock on hand as well.
Lou Alessi had a sterling reputation in the shooting world as a genuine professional with the
highest standards of integrity and class. Unfortunately, Mr. Alessi passed away in February of 2009. His wife,
Idamarie, has taken over the business and continues Lou's passion for the best quality gear.

I was fortunate enough to meet Mr. Alessi several years ago at a SHOT show and found him to
be everything that I had heard: gracious, modest, and down to earth. He will be missed.
At present, Alessi Holsters continues under the guidance of Idamarie.
They now feature an e-commerce website that will accept orders. The delivery times are still about the same.
A number of Alessi holsters are very popular, but I have my personal favorites. One of which is
the Alessi ankle holster. During my law enforcement career, I tried just about every ankle holster known to man. I
finally broke down and ordered an Alessi ankle. This model is hands down the Cadillac of ankle holsters and the
best ankle model I've ever seen. It's not cheap and you'll probably have to wait awhile, but if you are serious
about ankle carry, it's more than worth it.
I also like the CQC, DOJ, and the Talon Plus. The Talon Plus still ranks as one of may all time
favorite clip-on IWB holsters.
If you want an Alessi holster, you really have two options:
- Be prepared to wait, or
- Find one used and pay more for it than it cost brand new
